Yes I’ve been eating out a lot but last week took my friend Carrie and I on an unexpected, very short tour of Tuscany, so we had to eat out some more.
The places we visited in Pisa weren’t so spectacular for what Italy has to offer and I didn’t notice their names. The gelato and pizza (lovely melting mozzarella) was good but the best was yet to come in Firenze.
We hadn’t planned on going to Florence, it just happened, but since I had been there once before and memorised the foodie highlights we managed to fit them into a day. This leads me to the top eats in Florence:
- Lunch/dinner at Mamma Gina. Get a real Florentine taste by ordering T-bone steak or tripe. I had the Osso Bucco veal shin, delicious with a side of courgette fries. Arrive hungry and have the proper Italian multi-course menu.
- The best ice-cream in the world at Gelateria Santa Trinita. If I lived there I’d go everyday, also you can choose a tub or cone size and have as many flavours as you want in it and their scoops are generous. I tried the stracciatella, dark chocolate fondant and the greatest flavour discovery, savoury black sesame in an odd grey colour.
- Though not from Florence, the Sicilian cannoli can be found here. Paired with a good coffee in the afternoon, so good.
Tuscany never fails to produce the most simple but most flavourful food, La Dolce Vita!
